This colourful little quilt was made several years ago now. Back in ancient times. Pre-blog. I re-discovered it the other day whilst attempting to clean my basement work room. It was under a mountain of junk on my work table and when I glimpsed its dark borders I thought, hmm, I’ve never shared that little guy… Is now the time?… Yes, I told myself, now IS the time.
As you can plainly see, it’s a scrappy little thing. I can spy some of my boys’ old cotton shirts in there and fabric from other projects too. I love that about scrappy quilts…
I made several simple pieced house designs and repeated them a few times each throughout the quilt using different scraps. The sky area around each house is quite tightly hand-quilted. Originally, I had every intention of adding embroidery details here and there but ran out of steam before getting around to it. Come to think of it, that may account for why I haven’t shared it until now. It was never really finished in my mind… But I think this is the way it’s going to stay.
Sometimes you just have to let things go. You know?

Isn’t it wonderful to find such a treasure under a pile of trunk? I think it’s beautiful and needs a nice spot on the wall!

I think it is really nice and so full of "nostalgia"….Lovely treasure!

I love it just as it is! What a fun surprise to find. With bits and pieces of the boys' things, I'm sure you'll find a great spot for it.
It's such a sweet quilt and I love that it uses clothing bits too.
i love it.
it's the most finished unfinished project i've ever seen : )
hope it finds a permanent home on your wall ♥
p.s. it has my wheels turning for a quilt project to do with kids.
WOW I love this! I'm glad you found it & blogged it.
One of my art teachers explained that art is knowing when the piece is finished. I think you finished right on time.
Hugs!
Oh my gosh, thank goodness you re-discovered this sweet quilt. I just love it!! Thanks for sharing with us!
This is an amazing quilt Michele! Love the whole composition of it!
I have started blankets using my children's old clothes but haven't finished even one. I do hope I make something as beautiful as this!
That is such a lovely little village quilt… love it…
Hugz
Dear Michele, the quilt is lovely!!! It wears such a mood, it must be very exciting to sleep in its "hug"!! It looks in the way it should look – don't add or change even a single stitch (by me)…:0)
I've kept throughout the years some of my son's favourite clothes. I dream to sew him a quilt, using them, but I haven't taken the first step yet, because I have never made quilts before (we don't have this craft here, in Bulgaria), so I have a lot to learn…
Have a fantastic weekend!
Such a sweet little quilt…I love that it's a whole village of memories.
I love it! Those little houses are so cute, and it's wonderful that it's full of memories.
This is really cute!! Great job!

This is so cute!
Love this with all the little houses! Reminds me of the song.. little boxes on the hillside.. little boxes made of scrippy scrappy.. lol
and yes, sometimes you really do need to just let things go 🙂
This is very sweet! I hope you don't mind that I pinned it on my Quilt and Sew Pinterest board for future reference! Thanks for sharing.
This little quilt is one of my favorites. I love it!! I love how it all came together too!! It wasn't calling out for embroidery. That's why you never added it! It 's a beautiful quilt just the way it is!!!
It's beautiful, Michele. I love the size of it. Great color, too. And I love that you said "Sometimes you just have to let things go." I am currently working very hard on this 🙂
Très sympa !!! Souvent , quand on redécouvre des choses faites auparavant , on les voit aussi avec un autre oeil , justement !!!
Under a pile of junk???? It is time this lovely little piece was uncovered and allowed to see the light of day and bask in all the lovely compliments shared above!!
I hope you are going to find a special place for it – where it is no longer hidden from view. Your house quilt is a lovely piece of art.
This is such a lovely little house quilt Michele and I think it looks just perfect the way it is without more embellishing. Scrappy quilts are always so interesting to look at aren't they.
Do u have a pattern for this house quilt? If not, did u draw out the entire quilt first and then make templates?
Hi Nancy, This is an original quilt that came together organically out of my little brain. There is no pattern. I designed the little houses individually, made several, and then pieced the whole thing together like a puzzle. Hope that answers your question! Have a great day!
I just stumbled upon this ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS quilt on Pinterest, and I am in LOVE!!! I was curious as to whether you sold any of the quilts that you make or if you happen to take custom orders?? I would be HONORED to own one of your treasures!! Feel free to email me at 24phipps@gmail.com
Thank you so much, Michele! You are insanely talented!! ♡Keri
