I don’t know if you noticed but Blogger installed a brand new two-word verification on all Blogspot blogs lately. Yip. EE. I don’t know when it happened exactly but I DO NOT like it. Funny thing is, I had disabled word-verification eons ago but upon further investigation, I noticed that it had been RE-enabled without my consent. How did that happen, I wonder… The only thing I can think of is maybe when Blogger made recent changes to the comments section, they must have reset it to the default setting or something… Who knows. I don’t pretend to understand the collective mind of Blogger.
In any case, I re-disabled the word-verification. So I wanted to know if it was actually really, truly, and completely gone… Let me know will you? ‘Cause I have no way of double-checking from my end…
Now, if the new word-verification happens to irk you as much as it does me (it sends me squarely round the bend) you too can disable it.
Here’s what you do:
1. [Skip to step 2 if you’re still using the old Blogger interface.]
Edited to Add 24 Sept 2012:
You CAN now turn off two-word verification in the new interface. Here’s how:
1. Click “settings” from within your dashboard.
2. Click “posts and comments”.
3. Adjust “comment moderation” settings to your liking.
Thanks for updating me, Jelli. ♥M
If you’re using the new Blogger interface you first have to get back to the old interface because, for some reason, these settings cannot be found in the new one. Hrm. So, find your way to the old interface by going to the new dashboard. In the upper right hand corner of your screen you’ll see a little icon that looks like a gear. Click the icon and this drop-down menu will appear immediately below it:
2. Click on “Old Blogger interface”. This brings you back to a sweet and simpler time… Now click on the settings for the blog in question:
3. And then select the Comments tab.
4. Scroll down the page to “Show word verification for comments?” and click “NO”. Obviously. Not even a question.
5. Briefly celebrate. And then quickly hit “Save Settings” at the bottom of the page.
Aaaah yesssss… Not even a craft but still most satisfying. Everything is right with my bloggy world again. You should now be word-verification-less… Blissdom!… Okay well, you have a lovely weekend and I’ll be back soon.
♥M
Edited to Add 28 Feb 2012: HERE‘s another very thorough post by Hilary about the new word-verification. Thanks Hilary!
Thank you! I didn't even realize it was turned on.
i disabled it on mine as well but i moderate all comments so i can catch spam…and there has been some spam. and it is not showing up here anymore…just so you know.
that's a good point Deanna. I moderate older comments as well which prevents the publication of spam in the comments.
Thanks! I'll have to check this on my blog. I hate the two-word verification thing – always have to do it at least twice!
I know, the new words are very difficult to read. I've often had to re-set them too. Annoying!
p.s. It worked for you – no verification 🙂
Awesome! thanks Jane!
I shall disable mine – I did before but have noticed this new verification thingy that drives me nuts! I can never read what the flaming thing says and spend ages re-doing it! Thanks, Sue x
You're not alone Krafty Cupcake. I had to get my husband to read some for me the other night. I just couldn't see them…
The new verification is driving me batty and really cramping my comment-style. I'm not leaving nearly as many as I used to. I had it disabled in the old format, too. Is it back on my blog??? Horrors!
Thank you for the heads up, I had no idea this was enabled. Now to find out if it's actually disabled 🙂
Carolyn
I noticed that all of a sudden I'm seeing this new verification. The only problem is… I don't see the two words. So I am suddenly unable to ever comment on anything that requires that verification. I wonder if anyone realizes how many commenters they may be losing. I wish you could tell us how to disable the verification for we who comment! Thanks for the insight. And I didn't see the verification on your blog.
Exactly Noreen, that's what was happening with me too! Hopefully more people will get rid of the word-verification. I know I would be much happier for it. 🙂
Yes, it has driven me insane. Worse, they chose a mile long words. I absolutely hate it!
I had to check if word verification was enabled as you said, but in my dashboard it says no verification needed. So I guess when you leave a comment at my place it does not ask for it. Does it Michele? Because, just as you, I wouldn't know.
You're all good Maya, I checked!
would you mind if I direct folks to your explanation. I am so excited to have this information. I just went and changed all of my blogs. Thanks so very much. I won't post the link until I hear from you, Oma Linda
Not a problem Linda, you go right ahead!
I have a comment box to type y comment in, without having to reload your page over and over again… so maybe this also had to do with the new bloggercomment settins.
I better check and see if mine has been re-enabled.
Thanks so much! It is become so hard to read those words. I didn't know I could disable mine – will do it and suggest to others they do the same. How annoying they are!
Thanks for the heads up! mine was still disabled when I checked it though. *phew*
You're so lucky!!!
New you was good for something Michele…lol….this has been annoying me on other blogs and didnt think it was on mine but it was so have just followed yr tut as it isnt any longer….so thank you my friend xx
A great PSA!!! Let's see, if I submit this comment and then don't come back to tell you I had to do the verification, you can be assured that your new setting is correct. Here goes…
Crap, I did disable mine ages ago but I'd better check that it didn't get un-disabled. I absolutely DETEST the new captcha codes. Impossible to read. Ridiculous.
Agreed!
The verification really BUGS me – most of the time it's hard to read. I may blog about this and send people here to read about the fix. Thanks!
No problem Geri, you're welcome!
Thank you I hate those word things. Your tutorial was SO helpful.
thank you for the heads-up on this one.
I also had no idea it had been changed – and it's been driving me nuts on other blogs recently.
all changed back thanks to you.
huge thanks. cheryl xox
You're welcome Sheri and cheryl! Glad to help!
I had no idea either that it had been changed on mine but I had noticed it on others and it drives me nuts.
Thanks for the tip.
Thank you! Makes life SOOOO much easier!
I don't have the word verification button to unclick and I still get the robot, so frustrating.
Tusind tak – danish for thank you SO very much! That robot makes fun stuf (commenting) sooooo anoying!
Best wishes from
tina
Thank you for the instructions. I double checked (haha) to be sure double verification is off. Yes, I, too, found double verification redundant and unnecessary.
Thanks for the tips
Ahhhh! I'm a wordpress kinda gal, but read a lot of blogger blogs and HATE the two word verification. THe toher thing they changed it so that on a lot of blogs I wasn't even able to leave a comment with my wordpress information. I learned a way around it, to sign in with a blogger/goggle info, but I really don't want that. SO, like others have said, I don't leave as many comments. I do have one blogger blog, but am about to switch it to a wordpress.
Nice tutorial, Michele! I double-checked mine but nothing had changed, maybe because I moderate all the comments? Either way, nice to see a blog-type tutorial here! We love your crafts but it's fun to get a peek behind the scenes every once in a while, too.
No problem Charissa! And the change is nice for me too!
Thanks for the heads-up on this and for your tutorial Michelle. It took me a while to get it to change to the old interface and I actually had to close down the blogger tab and re-open it and voila it came up with the old dashboard. Anyway mine hadn't changed for some reason so that's okay. I had been getting really annoyed at this 2 word verification thing though and why didn't they let us know about this change??
Who knows Catherine… But I'd noticed it on so many other blogs that I thought I would check my own and there it was: re-installed. It would have been nice if Blogger had told us…
Thank you sooooo much Michele!!!!
I was getting really upset with the double word verification….GRRRRRR!!!!
Love, xxxx Alessandra
Your welcome Alessandra. 🙂
Thanks so much for this post! I din't know that was back! I saw it in other blogs and it's a pain but, as I had disabled it I didn't worry. But now, with your post, I went to check the settings and it was back again! Argh!
Hopefully I turn it off!!!
You too?!!! So it wasn't only me? Well I'm glad I was able to help out Papgena! Yay!
Thank you so much for that. I hated the new blog interface and those word verification.
Hear hear, I agree!
i hate it. i hope all the bloggers follow you. kisses
Thank you so much! I thought I had disabled mine but whatever I did didn't work. Excellent tutorial. So excellent, I blogged about it. 🙂
Good stuff Judy!
Thank you so much for this. I had no idea that verification had been re-enabled and I HATE the thing on other people's blogs…always takes me 2 attempts (if I am lucky).
I know exactly what you mean. I've sometimes had to reset the words 4 times because I can't read them… Very frustrating!
Thank you very much for this! I have turned it off on my blog.
I wrote about this annoyance last Wednesday. Your tutorial is better.. it comes with pretty pictures! 😉
I agree…the new verification stinks.
Thank you thank you thank you!
Thanks!
Lori
Thanks so much for that info! So do you have to STAY with the old blogger in order for it to stay turned off? I found that the new blogger solved some issues for me, so I'm a bit reluctant to go back.
Hi Grandma G!
No, you don't have to stay with the old blogger for the changes to stick, thank goodness.
thanks for this it drove me mad too!
Thank you SO MUCH! That word verification was starting to take the fun out of leaving comments on peoples blogs.
Have a great week,
Giac
THANK YOU So MUCH!!!!!! I've tried to find how to turn off the stuff for so long!!!!!
Thank you, I have just joined the end of the queue of those who have successful turned off those 2……words.
Thank you! Finally, no more word verification.
You CAN turn it off in the new interface. Here's how: 1. Click "settings" from within your dashboard. 2. Click "posts and comments" 3. Adjust "comment moderation" settings to your liking. Hope this helps!
Thanks For Sharing This, It's Really Annoying Visitor And Stop Them To Comment…
How To Add "HTML Link To This Post" Widget In Blogspot?
Oh thank you so much and to my reader that brought it to my attention. I never even thought about it. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for that clear walk thru. I hate jumping thru hoops to comment and hadn't even realised my own blog had these hoops by default.
So thanks for sharing.
Nicely done and informative post!
Now to see if that is the reason I haven't been getting any comments or if I just haven't been getting comments because people aren't… commenting. 😉
